How To: Customize with Zazzle

This past weekend my home town had its annual Pride Parade. I wasn't able to make it but I still wanted to show my support. There's always heaps of products from the big name parades - Sydney, New York, San Francisco - but what's a girl to do if she lives in a small town? That's where Zazzle's customization feature comes in.

I really like the clean lines of our Sydney 2010 T-shirt:

But since I don't live in Sydney, it's not quite what I'm looking for. I need something that says Brisbane, and using the customization feature, I'll be able to personalize the T-shirt to reflect my city!

First up, I'm going to change the style of t-shirt (if you're happy with the style the shopkeeper has displayed, you can skip to the next step). Look for the box that says "Change your style and color". If you like one of the choices given, you can simply click on it. If you'd like to have a look at something else, clicking on "See All" will show you the full range of available designs.

Next, I'm going to change the text. Find and click on the "Customize it!" button.

Please note that not all products carry a "Customize It!" button. Some designs cannot be customized.

Now we get to the fun stuff! There's heaps of things you can do on the customization page, from adding pictures to changing the text font. All I need to do is change the word Sydney to Brisbane. To do this I need to click on "change text" in the "Sydney" box.

When the text box opens, I simply replace "Sydney" with "Brisbane" and click on OK.

The display now shows the t-shirt with Brisbane but, ack!, it's wonky. Don't worry, there's a couple of things you can use to fix it. I could try moving the text,

changing the font,

or, lowering the size of the text. That's the option I'm going with here.

And you're done!. Once you're satisfied with your new look tee, you simply click on "Add to Cart" and complete the transaction!

Have you tried the customization feature on Zazzle? Tell us what you've come with in the comments!

Quill and Me 2009: The Music and Distractions by Quill

And here's my version of 2009!

May
1. A business card for Paris Texas.

2. A little rock with eyes painted on it.....no, seriously :).

I did actually put that business card to use. My hair went from below waist length to just below my ears! My poor rock still does not have a name....

June
This month I was definitely distracted by our Pride Month shenanigans. I had rainbow nail polish on my desk and I was listening to Rufus Wainwright, Queen and "Don't Rain on My Parade"!! It's possible I might have got a little caught up in our theme :).

July
Or as I like to call it, Travel Month. I was listening to "Star Spangled Banner" by Sufjan Stevens and had my passport, tickets and guide books cluttering up my desk in preparation for a trip to Washington DC and NYC. Okay, now all this reminiscing is making me want to go back!

August to November
Apparently, I barely listened to music (but what I did listen to was good! I still have "Ces Soirees La" ny Yannick on rotation) and my desk was a distraction-free zone. Uh huh. I think is was probably more a case of, I ended up being too distracted to actually post anything! Creating that post for Talk Like a Pirate Day, for example? Very distracting. Who knew there were so many people prepared to Pirate talk for a day??
Procrastination, thy name is Quill.

December
I break out the Christmas music as early as is decent. By this I mean right on the dot of the first of December. "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" is one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs and Jack Johnson's version of Rudolph is brilliant.
I still have not conquered Traveline (the UK's transport website) but I will not be defeated! I'm going to figure public transport out in the UK if it kills me.

And that's it from me for the year! A very Happy New Year to all and we'll see you in January!

later,
Quill
